Først var det berre ein hobby i solfylte sørlige California. . .
Med eit einmotors Cessna flaug vi ofte langs kysten når
veret var klart, og tok bilde med eit enkelt 35mm fotoapparat.
Responsen var betre enn vi hadde venta, og litt etter kvart utvikla
hobbyen seg til ei forretning.
It all started as a hobby, in sunny Southern Calfornia
. . .
In a rented Cessna we would fly along the shoreline on a nice
clear day shooting the striking scenery with a simple 35mm camera
and zoom lens. Then we would distribute the proofs
stuck on a flyer like the one on the right, hoping for enough
orders to get us airborne from time to time . . .
The response was much better than we had anticipated, and gradually
the hobby became a business.

A 4.7megahertz IBM clone, and four microfiche readers. We are
indexing our growing archive so that each shot can be located
by street address or assessor's parcel numbers.

På oppdrag.
Ein Robinson R-22 er ideell til flyfotografering i lav høgde:
rimelig i drift, og med ein spesialkonstruert rotor som gjer flukta
silkemjuk.
Vi jobbar mest med eit Nikon F3 og stormagasin til arkivbruk.
Til meir krevande oppgåver, eit Hasselblad FC2000.
On assignment.
The Robinson R-22 is ideal for oblique aerial photography. It
offers good fuel economy, and due to the special rotor construction
it flies as smooth as silk.
At this point we are working with a Nikon F3 camera, with 250exposure
bulk back for high volume archival photography.
For more critical commercial work, a 4X5in large format, and
a Hasselblad FC2000 is used.

- archivally speaking, that is.

How do you best photograph the spectacular fjords in northwestern
Norway?
Our answer is seen above: a Noblex rotating lens panoramic camera
on a Kenyon gyro stabilizer. If you browse our online archive
here I think you might agree.

"Kolonien" på Malibu, igjen. Ørkenvindane frå Santa Ana lagar klar sikt til
ein kyst som oftast er dekt i dis og røyk. Men desse vindane
lagar også kraftig turbulens bak åsane! Takka vere
gyroen står kamera som fastfrose i lause lufta.
Middagen gjekk det verre med . . .

The Malibu Colony, again.
Santa Ana winds bring dry desert air to a coast that's often lost in haze and smog. These same gusts coming down the canyons
also make very turbulent flying conditions! But thanks to the
gyro, the camera is frozen steady in mid-air (unlike what I had for lunch).

Gjer det sjølv, så blir det rett.
Negativ frå Noblex-apparatet er gjenstridige i labben:
halve bildet er i motlys, resten i medlys. Eit umanipulert bilde
ser heilt galt ut: svart i ein kant, utvaska i den andre!
Med denne avanserte farge-analysatoren klarer vi få det
brukbart frå kant til kant, kvar gong.
Kvart bilde er kalibrert, eksponert og framkalla for seg sjølv.
Want it done right? Do it yourself.
Making photographic color prints from the Noblex camera is tricky.
One half of the negative is against, the other is with the sun.
A 'straight' reproduction looks awful!
This high precision color analyzer now helps us get things correct
from edge to edge, consistently.
Still, each and every color print is custom calibrated, exposed,
and developed in our own lab.

Our future is digital.
Martynas has just scanned the first batch of the archive, and
we are getting ready to upload the Internet edition with about
300 aerials from Northwestern Norway.
